The Holy Imam Husain ibn Ali - peace be upon him - has captured the hearts and minds of angels and humans for close to fourteen centuries. His memory still brings fresh and profound passions and sorrows to our hearts. And to eternity, there will be hearts which will seek to reach higher and higher through love of Husain (as) and yet, he will remain beyond the reach of every human being forever, for no one but Allah (swt) and perfect human beings can know him. The author of the most transcendental supplication, Dua A'rafah, and master of all martyrs, cannot be confined to paradigms of human constructions. However, we should strive towards him all throughout our lives, for God rewards those who love Husain (as) the best. In these series of lectures (delivered in English), we seek to know some erfanic aspects of the event of Karbala and his martyrdom, analyzing this event as a manifestation of total love for Allah (swt). In these lectures, we will consider some very well known sayings of the Holy Prophet (saw) about Imam Husain (as) and well known incidents of Karbala, and explain their spiritual and erfanic meanings.
